Yearly home insurance estimates

Hi,
I am about to pay our annual home insurance bill. We have to provide a replacement value for the home - how do we accurately estimate this??? We live in a 1920’s double brick Californian bungalow of about 30 squares in inner-eastern Melbourne. The amount we have come up with is based on asking friends who have built new homes of similar size in the area - but we really don’t know if we are way off the mark.

Hi Penny
The best way is to use an online calculator, which a number of insurers have on their websites (ours can be viewed at http://www.nrma.com.au/pub/nrma/home/homecalculators.shtml ). Here there are calculators for both home and contents insurance policies which are easy to use and will help you estimate just how much insurance cover you really need.
