I have just bought my first home, which is an old housing commission weatherboard house and am having trouble finding keyed window locks that will have fit the steel framed casement windows (as the house has half aluminium windows with key locks and half steel), i have bought a couple of different types and they don’t seem to be the right type and i cannot think of what else i could do to improve security with the windows.

Please help
Andrew

ANSWER
Hi Andrew

Burglars often enter homes through windows, so it makes sense that you are committed to improving the security of your windows.

And it is great to see you are considering key-operated window locks, as when correctly fitted and locked, they will assist in preventing a burglar from simply breaking the window glass and opening the window to get in.

The reality is that incorrect installation could result in a lock being ineffective so it’s best that all locks be installed by a qualified locksmith. To assist the locksmith and their preparation you should consider checking the window frames to ensure they are safe and secure.

I hope this helps.
