Gas heating of a 9 x 4 metre Inground pool

Hi Manfred,
We are looking to build a pool with the above dimensions, but due to our roof sloping and structure, we have been advised by a Solar Pool installer that we would struggle to get more than around 50% area coverage on the roof.

One option is to build a structure with a roof that can support the necessary solar heating pipes etc.

Another option is to heat the water solely via Gas heating. We know this is a much more expensive option, but are unclear as to what sort of additional costs we could expect over the swimming months (Say Nov to late March).

Would you please be able to advise an estimate of heating costs using gas ??
Thanks, Julian

Answer:

Hi Julian,
You have two options:
1. Gas heating: I can only give you a rough estimate, but it would cost around $80-$150 a week to keep at the temperature you want.
2. a heat pump: the running costs are around 30% of what gas heating costs. However, the initial purchase price of a heat pump is more expensive.
Regards,
Manfred
