I live in Gunnedah NW New South Wales. I have a concrete pool with a vinyl liner. About 2 months ago I noticed a sudden and huge loss of water. After investigation I found that a major crack had opened up between two bricks that surround the top edge of the pool. This has caused the tiles on the top inside of the pool to also crack allowing copious amounts of precious water to seep out and under the paved area surrounding the pool. I don’t know how far down the crack goes because the liner is stopping the remainder of water from escaping. I had a local gentleman, who services pools in town have a look at it. He purchased some sort of grout stuff that has an expanding quality to it. He applied it about 3 weeks ago and it seemed OK until last week. The water is once again leaking out from the same place. I also noticed that the crack between the bricks has widened. I am at a loss as to what to do to repair it so it doesn’t keep happening. I have been told that the drought is to blame and that the ground is so dry that these crevices will keep occurring. The Public pool has the same problem and the council are emptying it next month for repairs. Given the fact that we are on water restrictions, I would like to solve the problem permanently if possible. Replacing the liner and taking it to the top of the pool, is not an option as I am on a disability pension and cannot afford $6,000.00. I am hoping that you can guide me to a solution that won’t cost the earth and that the local pool guy can help me apply. I look forward to your reply.
Many Thanks
Kerrie
Answer:
Hi Kerrie,
Without seeing your pool I can’t really advise. I would recommend you get a structural engineer to check the pool and advise the best way to rectify the problem.

Manfred
